Navrathri festival / Tang Shi n 三字经

Our indian neighbour invited us to their house for the Navrathri festival that holds for 9 days. It is a traditional festive in India and today was the last day.

role play - feeding the toy dog

Tang Poem - 唐诗

Mummy recently started to teach me one of the popular Tang Poem - "静夜思". I managed to know few words. Mummy read from forum that some parents argued this phrase is too difficult for kids to know the meaning but others said this is the easiest phrase to recite and meant to teach kids to get their interest in learning chinese. Mummy also recite "咏 鹅”and I got excited with the first 3 words "鹅, 鹅, 鹅”(goose, goose, goose). Ha! ha!

“三 字 经”- Three Character Classics

Mummy revised me on 三 字 经 and she is glad I can recite the 1st phrase without looking at the words.

read Thematic books

Just before I went to sleep at almost 10pm, Mummy saw me reading the thematic readers book on my own. She wanted to video me but I was distracted by the sound of clicking and flash light. Hence, mummy had to flip the page and I sat on her lap to read it. Mummy is glad that I did not start off with pointing the words and she is elimating pointing it unless I am unsure of it. I like this series much that mummy witnessed I blurted it out while shopping and said "Hi! I am Michael. My friends call me Micky". Mummy hope I will introduce myself one day and say "Hi, I am Shannon. I am 2 years old."

crawl

@Ikea -- mummy gave up on me as I had many ideas to entertain myself. Mummy object me climbing up on the pillar and I came out with this idea to crawl over the "hole". In the end, I managed to climb up on top of the "8" shaped pillar without mummy's aid. This shows I am getting taller :)

I like swimming!

Mummy brought along our swimming costumes to my buddy's house as she don't want to disappoint me as I kept saying "swimming! go Kana's house for swimming!" though they did not mention to go for swim. My buddy just woke up when we reached and mum asked aunt eileen whether to go for swim. She readily said "OK, no problem!" and off we go!

Mummy noticed I am trying to swim as saw I turned my back and kicked my legs while holding on the edge. Mummy didn't video me as they have gone back home and I still wanted to swim for a little while. I face front and wanted to lay flat and kicked it but knowing I can't as this isn't a baby pool (0.5m), is 1 m high! and I landed on mummy's arm instead. 2nd attempt, I sat on top and wanted to jump down....ha! no! I meant to jump on mummy's arm as previously I refused to do it. There are several kids in the pool and mummy encourages me to look at how they swim, how they kick their legs and have to wear goggles to protect our eyes under the water. I even attempt to blow bubbles. Also I am trying to speak in chinese sentence words and said "我在游泳" (I am swimming), "爷爷在游泳" (grandpa is swimming) when saw an old man in the pool.

Mummy had to pull me up as it was late (almost 6pm!). We went up and it was dinner time for my buddy. It looks delicious and I ate some (see picture below). Mummy tasted it and praised aunt eileen is a good cook and have great knowledge on what type of food that is good for kids or overall. Too bad, sis kana didn't appreciate her mummy's cooking as she just wanted to eat plain rice :(.

Mummy is glad that I am not a fussy eater as she said she's the opposite of aunt eileen --- a lousy cook whom just dump everything on the slow cooker for 2 meals straight (lunch and dinner). And till now, mummy didn't even add any seasoning (not even light sauce) as wanted as much natural ingredients as possible till I fuss about it.

Ingredients : chicken, soya bean, toufu, "san yao" in chinese and a little of light sauce.

And today, I managed to draw shapes using stencil.

tracing fingers

@Ikea -- on 2nd picture, I imitate a baby's crying when passed by, hence my face expression (said ah! ah! fake cry).
I like to trace on my finger.

Mummy encourages me to say in sentence words.
@home - When I asked mummy to put on the bandana for me and when she took out the camera, I immediately took it off and put on my favourite pink hat. The 1st 2 pictures are my current favourite pose when mummy asked me to sign "apple".

坏蛋 (naughty)

@Anchorpoint coffee store 5pm+, they asked me to sit down as I like to stand up on the chair. I replied with a cheeky tone and said "Shannon, 坏蛋!" and swapped my finger across my cheek which I actually imitate mummy's action. They laughed at my cuteness and shook their head whether to scold me or ......??? Mummy said I am now a little "rascal".

I like to pose in front of the camera too ;)

Dad finally bought a CD music player to put at the living room and I kept asking them to play back "itcy wincy spider" song till they are sick of it. When they switched to other songs, I will fuss till they gave up.

My pet cat

I have grown to like our pet cat name "rascal". Yes, I can pronounce his name properly, no more calling him "racal" without an "s" since few months back. I used to bully him a bit by trying to pull his fur, siting on him that makes him afraid of me but not anymore though he is still wary about me. Rascal is 10 years old now. Mummy felt she has neglected him a bit since I was born but she tried to find time to bond with him. Rascal loves to eat prawns which mummy will cook for him occasionally. See how I bond with Rascal on these pictures. I responded with mummy's request to hug him, kiss him and pat him.

pronounce "hippotamus"

Morning at Ikea, enjoying myself on the bunk bed :)

I can now pronounce "hippotamus" in full rather than "hippo". Mummy noticed my english syllabus is getting better by the day and so is my chinese.

read “我会读”level 2 book. Mummy had stopped flashing/reading me this series book as afraid I will tore it since this set is not cheap but it is really effective in starting me with chinese as I first learnt family words from this series on level 1. Mummy refreshed again and I still remembered the wordings though some aren't sure about it.

Gogo Bambini

We arrived Gogo Bambini about 1pm till 3pm+. I hasn't been there for almost 1 yr! Most of the difficulty level I couldn't play previously, now I can! Though I still afraid of the neting tunnel but still managed to walk over with mummy behind me. Mummy slided with me on the very long, curvy slide. It was pitched dark inside but I didn't cry nor afraid of it. We went to Forum where both Kana n me slept immediately once reached and they rested there till we woke up and went home at 5pm.

Balls are still my all-time favourite since young. Now even jumping on it!

读华文书 - read chinese books

@Ikea in the afternoon with mummy while daddy vacuumed the house. My mischievous side...wore Ikea bathrobe and walked around. Passers-by kept laughing and said I look cute :)An indian boy took it off from me but I didn't cry nor snatched it back. Instead I went back and took another 1 :). Mummy said this is my soft side whereby I do not know how to "protect" myself from being bullied which worry her if I go to school.

After my bath, I took out my favourite chinese book "你 在 那 里?" from the bedside and read it aloud. As you can see from the next 2 videos, some words mummy think I am not so confident, I will read very softly as compared to the 1st video which I know it very well.

scooter / sunglasses

@the park in the morning. I saw a little girl playing scooter and I look with an intense interest. Mummy likes the way I look at the kids playing (scooter, badminton, basketball). She said I look so innocent and seems to wonder when will I grow up to be like them? Mummy is all for a go to let me play whichever sports I like as they are a good form of exercise.

video shown I wanted daddy to buy scooter for me :)))

After the class, went to kiddy palace @marina square. I quickly rushed to wear the sunglasses and needless to say, asked for mirror and gamely dance too! Oh yes, dancing is a form of exercise too! Hee! hee!

Joke of the day - "Fuzzy!!"

I laid down next to mummy on the bed. She put her arm on my shoulder and my eyes are on her armpit. I touched it and said "Fuzzy! It is fuzzy!" "ha! ha! ha!" Daddy laughed all the way when mum relates this incident as this word came frequent from one of my favourite book "That's not my...." series.

Also whenever I touch dad's clean cut moustache on his chin, I will said "fuzzy" too.

Mum finds me super-sensitive about sound. I will keep saying sound of this & that (eg. sound of police car, sound of motorbike, sound of airplane, sound of dog, sound of drilling, sound of dump truck, sound of water, etc. etc).

this is now an easy task for me to walk over it from the ladder ;)

Lesson learnt - almost "lost" me

@Paragon with my buddy ;) I love to swing!

Mummy just love me in this pony hair-style. Isn't I look cute and vain too? Ha! ha! I will squeeze my nose that look like "wrinkled" whenever I smile and mummy can't resist to like it as she said I look adorable with this "wrinkled nose"as shown on the 4th picture.

A lesson to learn for mum & dad - Almost "lost" me!

They wanted to have their dinner at KFC @anchorpoint and saw there isn't any empty seats available and hence detoured to browse at the B1 bookstore. Suddenly daddy found me "missing" and thought I was still inside the bookshop and may hide beneath the table. Mummy searched for me inside the shop and asked daddy to search around the mall as I might have ran away elsewhere. Daddy said can't be as I was out of sight within 1 sec. Mummy getting panic as she has searched the shop all corners and can't find me. She quickly walked outside the shop and saw me standing outside the comic store, a few shops away where it is my favourite spot whenever they have their coffee break there. "Phew!" they sighed and said I am getting more active! They said luckily this is our regular shopping mall else really don't know where to look for me. Daddy said might have to buy a strap to strap me to prevent from running away again! Oh no!

Am I naughty?

Whenever I run, I will turn around and said "You! shannon!" "You funny girl!" and giggled all the way. I know what mummy will said and hence said it on her behalf. Hee! hee! And when she shook her head and said "peng san! (faint!), I will said "peng san!" too!! "aiyo, my girl ah!" mummy said.

growing up phase

Mummy teaching me on how to answer "how old am I?" in both english & chinese.

On a little note of growing up

Run (not walk quickly)

I can run fast than before! Mummy had to run after me and stop me for going further. Previously mummy had to just walk quickly to catch me but now she said she is catching her breath to chase after me! I was laughing/smiling away while being chased by them as I think it is fun!

Books

And I am falling in love with .....reading books! I love to read books while siting on my potty or my table. Well, I couldn't say I read well but mummy heard me reading books on my own which is a good sign.

Not shy anymore

And for the very 1st time, I hugged my 3 teachers after class with open arms! Teacher Peiqin help me took off my shoes and I said "谢谢老师” - thank you, teacher! (of course, mummy asked me to say it).

Dylan's grandma was shocked that I allowed her to hold my hands and walked together to hail a cab to go to school today.

Motorskills

I can move my thumbs (拇指), index fingers (食指) up & down now - doing the 一 个 拇 指 动 一 动 儿 歌
