montesorri & flash cards

Hippie! I am able to climb up the spiral ladder type to the 2nd highest level this morning at the playground. Initially I was stuck at 2nd lowest level and when mummy explained to me that I need to raise my one leg at a time and demonstrate by lifting my leg up. I learnt fast and on 2nd attempt, I was able to do it by myself but haven't learn to get down.

Aunt Geraldine did once said I am an inquisitive child and indeed I am. I like to learn things that adults do. Lately, I kept taking the rubber band to play with it. Yesterday, mummy taught me how to use it by tying it on the book. I kept pratising it seriously. On the other hand, mummy think these practical things are actually montesorri methods. For eg. as learnt from school - using tongs, cloth pegs, play doh, stacking, pressing. Mummy thought this is part of motor-skills or art & crafts. Mummy met a friend whom she is into montesorri methods to teach her girl at home and surprisingly, sweeping is also part of it! Oooohhh!

reading the "H" book ...likes the last page "ho! ho! ho!"

After my noon nap, mum flashed to me on Insects, Measuring Tools & Sports topic and later tested on me. Mummy showed me the real things that has been flashed eg. measuring tape as I kept taking it from the kitchen cabinet and thermometer. Nothing beats showing the real stuff :)
After that, we went to kana's house for play till about 6:25pm. I refused mummy to hold me and walked up the stairs on my own on the way back home.

sight & sound / growing-up

Both mum & dad agreed I got good sight & hearing. While I was in the kitchen this afternoon as I refused to take my noon nap and while daddy was preparing milk for me, I heard loud sound and said "dump truck". I knew it because I heard the same sound and saw a big truck while I was at the playground few days ago. Mummy told me this is a dump truck where all the rubbish are collected. I even recognise the motorbike sound from my house unit when the engine starts as I kept saying "motorbike". Whenever plan flew over, I would said "see airplane" but sometimes mistook for helicopters esp. these past few weeks, 4 or 5 helicopters flew passed our unit for national day rehearsal. I even recognise it is an airplane at night when flew passed and saw only lights blinking up in the air. I am interested vehicles on the road -- lorry, van, taxi, truck, bicycle, motorbike, bus and would excitedly said the names of the vehicles when I saw it.

Whenever it rains, i would excitedly said it is raining as I recognise the sound "dick dick" so is the thunder sound but sometimes got mixed-up with the airplane sound.

On a little note of growing-up, I am able to understand simple instructions :-

1) Mummy recalled few days ago, she asked me to take out my diaper and threw into the rubbish bin as it was my bath-time. I quickly dashed into the living room and picked up my soiled diaper as I left it there and threw into the rubbish bin.

2) Mummy had a habit to take out the rubbish plastic bags (1 plastic bag for my soiled diapers and 1 plastic bag for other rubbish) and wait for daddy to come back home to throw it away. Daddy would make me do some household and ask me to carry 1 plastic bag. Yesterday, I saw a tied rubbish plastic bag and I carried it, said to daddy "throw rubbish". Daddy laughed and accompanied me to throw rubbish into the centre bin outside.

3) Mummy learnt that I do not like "scolding by shouting" as I would react more and unwillingly to listen. So mummy had to use "soft explanation" on why i should not do this and that. She recalled an incident lately when I sat on the dining chair and threw a book on the floor. Mummy did not scold me but showed a stern face. I knew I am wrong and almost cried and mummy used a soft approached to explain to me that if i threw a book on the floor, mummy had to pick it up and I should put it back into the bookshelf instead. Mummy quickly hugged me as I will burst into tears any minute.

4) Mummy saw me twice that I picked up & put back the play dough accessories into the bag and zipped it automatically but other times, she has to ask me.

5) When I am done with my bath whilst they let me played alone on my bathtub for a while (of course, they would watch me at a near distance), I would said "done, finish" and they will carry me to the room to dress me up. Lately, I am more daring to come out from my bathtub on my own quietly and walked out to the living room all wet! I fell a few times as it was slippery. They are careful now and watch me closely during bath.

whom do i resemble?

The answer is : mummy! When I was young, mummy knew I resembled her much just that I look more "meaty"....hee! hee! Mummy took out a very old, black & white photo of hers when she was about 5-6 years old in the 70's!!! So do you think I look like mummy? Daddy did not have his young photo so can't compare much.

Mummy now understand being a parent will constantly worry their children's safety and even more now lately passers-by commented I look cute, pretty. Mummy recalled an incident 2 days ago while I was sitting on a round red swing at Ikea after their dinner and daddy went to wash his hands, a man (about early or mid 30's) came and said "hello!" and waved to me in a very friendly-manner, smiling away and sat on the blue swing next to me and wanted to chit-chat with me without asking mummy's permission. Worried, mummy quickly asked me to go over the other side and told daddy about it.

super active

@Ikea this morning, happily climbed up on the bed frame. I am getting more active now. A far cry when I was young. I started to crawl late when I was about 8 months old when most starts as young as 5-6 months old. I only crawled within the playmat area and managed to crawl out from living room to bedroom to kitchen 2 months later (ie. 10 months old). As mummy is into the GD method where crawling is a crucial point and was worried that I might skipped crawling to walking. Now it was in the past and as mummy mentioned, my motor skills has already surpased her expectation. Mummy in fact is happy I am more active than not as she believe certain motor skills set help to activate brain faster.

@downstairs playground, 5:45pm. I am able to climb up the curve-shaped ladder-type without fear and difficulty and it was my first time! And trying to climb on the spiral-type. I refused to go home till mummy had to carry me home for bath and dinner at 6:45pm. Now I got more choices to play in the playground as previously can only played the slide.

pictures taken on camera phone hence resolution not so good

肚子饿 (hungry)

This morning when woke up, I said "肚子饿, 喝牛奶”- "hungry, drink milk." I am now able to express more with words. Previously, from saying "牛奶" (milk), to "喝牛奶" (drink milk), now added hungry words in chinese. I was influenced by my all-time favourite chinese book "可爱的小猫咪”。Mummy gave me 180ml of milk to drink and indeed I was hungry and drank all as lately I drink about 140ml of milk only.

Mummy noticed the past few weeks, I am trying to speak more chinese words eg, 湿 (wet), 坐下 (sit down),蹲 (squat),弯腰 (bend waist) and able to said it in english and do the action too. Whenever mummy ordered tea for herself and coffee for daddy after their dinner, I would said "一 杯 咖 啡" (one cup of coffee),"一 杯 茶" (one cup of tea). Mummy is happy that I am improving my chinese language :)

For english, lately like to say "where is the ......?", "that's the .....", "I like ....".

more : 三子经 & read books

I am getting tired of reading the 1st few phrases of 三子经 and mum continues the next phrases. I like to read out the last word of the 3 characters. I spoke very softly so have to raise the volume high.

Read one of my favourite book "Oh no!" @Ikea

trying to read "crazy crocodile" book as mummy read to me about 3 or 4 times only.

I also have my "mischievous" times. See how I climb up the "8" shape partition at Ikea? Dad saw the video and shake his head. But I was having fun and took it as a slide! Mum didn't stop me as wanted to see how far I can go and gauging on my mobility/agility, mum noticed I am very careful on climbing and did hold my hands to support it. Of course, mum afraid I will fall but I have to learn it by myself.
